It is impossible to summarise in just one page centuries of history of the island and its many facets. Known also as “butterfly on the sea” because of its particular shape, Favignana, the largest of the Egadi Islands, seduces with a play of colours created by the convergence of the blue of the sea and the white of the limestone walls. There are many things to do and see on holiday onFavignana; here are some suggestions.
Enjoy the sea
Certainly the first thing that comes to mind. You can choose the beaches and bays with fine golden sand(Cala Azzurra, Lido Burrone, the Calamoni), or the characteristic sand and pebble coves (Punta Longa, Preveto, Faraglioni and Punta Sottile).
“Plunge” into history
If you are passionate about history and culture, the island of Favignana won’t let you down. To start, there is the museum of the former Stabilimento Florio with exhibits from different historical periods. Then there are the Norman castles: Santa Caterina and San Giacomo (both are not accessible). The archaeological zone of San Nicola is of real historical interest. Do you want more information?
